1991 GRAD MARK AMBROSE INDUCTED INTO NWCA HALL OF FAME

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Former Delaware Valley College national champion Mark Ambrose '91 was recently inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Hall of Fame.

Ambrose is the second Aggie wrestler to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame as he joins 1996 graduate and current Delaware Valley head coach Brandon Totten, who was inducted in 2002. Former Aggie head coach Robert Marshall is also a member of the NWCA Hall of Fame as he was inducted into the Coaches' wing in 1995.

Ambrose, who now resides in Tampa, Florida, was one of the greatest wrestlers to hit the Delaware Valley mats. He compiled a career record of 106-6 and graduated as the school's all-time victory leader (now ranked sixth). His .946 winning percentage still ranks second in school history.

Ambrose was one of just two Aggie wrestlers (Shaun Smith) to earn All-American accolades in each of his four years. He captured the 1989 NCAA Division III championship at 158 pounds and was the runner-up in both 1988 and 1990. He finished in fourth place as a senior in 1991.

The 1989 national title was one of three (Smith and Randy Worrell) earned by Delaware Valley as the team was the Division III national runner-up that season - missing the championship by just six points.. The Aggies went 18-0 and were ranked number one in the country through the second half of the season.

Ambrose's career achievements also included four Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) titles - one of just five Aggies to reach that milestone - and was twice named the conference's Most Outstanding Wrestler. He helped lead Delaware Valley to team titles in both 1989 and 1991. Ambrose excelled in the classroom as well and was a two-time Academic All-American.

Joining Ambrose in the Class of 2005 were coaches Paul Solberg (Luther) and Jeff Swenson (Augsburg) as well as wrestlers Mitch Brown (St. Lawrence) and Gray Kroells (Augsburg).

Mark wrestled for Huntingdon High from 84-87 and was a two time state qualifier under Coach Fred Wilson.  He racked up a record of 69-14 during his high school career.

There is NO medical default rule as there is no such thing in the rule book.

However, the rule that applies is this:

1. your wrestler MUST take a second loss no matter what the circumstances

2. The head coach then has an option:
      A. Notify the tournament director, the wrestler was injured and that
you are withdrawing him from the tournament and not accepting place points
further and he will not receive an award.. in which case, he doesn't get
the extra loss. He still gets the next match forfeit loss.. just not the
third one.
      B. Your team gets all his points and he get any award due him.. and
he takes ALL forfeit losses.
